I am mostly a self taught artist. I did study jewelry design and batik in school but most of my influence came from my Mothers "gallery" in our home. She was both an artist and a teacher and from her I learned the importance of "seeing" and coloring outside of the lines.
I spent a lot of my youth out in the wilderness as a hiker, camper and trekker and was taken by the beauty found in so much of the natural world. I began making jewelry, hanging bells and sewn leather fashion from items picked, caught and found. Seeds, skins, bones and teeth were many of my first materials.
Having the need for a photographic record of my art I upped my photography skills and soon found a new love. Once the "studio" shots were done with the jewelry I took the camera outside and have now added a frame shop to the work bench . I love it.
I started photographing what I saw right out the back door. It was spring and the new flowers were so beautiful. Then I saw birds, bees and dragonflies. I was hooked. I lived near the Snoqualmie River Valley in Washington and soon found places to photograph the many birds that nest there and those that pass through on their seasonal migration. Photography has been a great match with my love of the outdoors and it’s a shear joy finding things of beauty around every turn. Birds are a favorite, but flowers, landscapes, varying types of architecture and the wonder of the night sky keep me busy wondering what interesting subject matter can I find next.
And I’m on it.
Please take a look around and "See Me"
Thanks Craig
